About Us
Like the phoenix rising from the ashes,
I, too, will rise,
spread my wings and soar.
The Dudley School Mascot is a phoenix.
A phoenix is a mythical bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends). It has a 500 to 1,000 year life-cycle. Near the end of its life cycle it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites. The nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self.
The Thomas H. Dudley School first opened for students in 1904 during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt. The school served the East Camden Community until 2007.
In the fall of 2009, the new Dudley Elementary School opened its doors to the children of East Camden. Like the phoe-nix, Dudley is reborn and is destined to serve this community for a long time.
