About the Principal

ecdc2

LORAY VAUGHAN, the principal of the Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) is a Camden Native, attending Bonsall Elementary, Morgan Village, and graduating from Camden High School. Ms. Vaughan has served the students of Camden City Public School District for more than 20 years. She has served as a Teacher, Speech Pathologist, Inclusion Specialist, Preschool and Intervention Referral Team Specialist, Supervisor of Early Childhood, and Principal.

Ms. Vaughan specializes in challenging behaviors, best practices in early childhood, and special education. Ms. Vaughan received her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Kean University and she received both Master’s Degrees in Educational Leadership and Special Education from Cheyney University. Ms. Vaughan is also a professor at Rowan University where she supervises aspiring Early Childhood Educators and teaches course work in Elementary Education. In the past, she has also taught coursework at Burlington County College in Public Speaking, Developmental English, as well as courses for ESL students.

Ms. Vaughan is a strong believer in the power of helping young students build resiliency through culturally relevant interventions and modifications. As a result of her dedicated work in this area, she serves as the state-selected southern New Jersey school representative for the New Jersey Pyramid Model Partnership founded through the New Jersey Department of Education. This team determines state regulations on important issues such as suspension, challenging behaviors, and aligning how we support students through all government programs that serve young children (ie. DCP&P & Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health). Loray is a faithful volunteer for the Aids Interfaith Ministry (AIM), a faith-based organization, geared to provide resources to HIV/AIDS infected persons and reduce the incidences of HIV/AIDS infection in communities of color. Ms. Vaughan is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. She continues to support and uplift her community mentoring young women through college as well as job and life coaching.
