Graduation Requirements

According to N.J.A.C. 6A:8-5.1, in order to graduate from a district high school and receive a State endorsed diploma students must participate in a program of study with not fewer than 120 credits in courses designed to meet all of the Core Curriculum Content Standards.

CAMDEN CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Cohort Classes of 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 Classes of 2021 and beyond
Assessment Requirements* Pass one English and one math assessment from this list:

  • PARCC: any English or math assessment
  • PSAT (prior to Oct 2015): Score 40 or above on reading or math
  • PSAT (after Oct 2015): Score 22 or above on reading or math
  • SAT (prior to March 2016): Score 400 or above on critical reading or math
  • SAT (after March 2016): Score 450 or above on evidence-based reading/writing section or 22 or above on Reading test / 440 or above on math section or 22 or above on math test
  • ACT: Score 16 or above on reading / math sections
  • ASVAB-AFQT (Military Qualification Exam): Score 31+
  • AccuPlacer (College Placement Exam): Score 6 or above on writing or 4 or above on ESL writing / 76 or above on math (Algebra)

Students may also graduate using NJDOE-approved appeal process.
Class of 2020 only: Students must take all English / math PARCC assessments

Take all English / math PARCC assessments AND pass the following:

  • PARCC ELA Grade 10
  • PARCC Algebra I

Students may also graduate using NJDOE-approved appeal process.

 

Credit Requirements Number / Type of Credits
English/Language Arts and Literacy 20 credits (including English I-IV)
Health & Physical Education At least 3.75 credits per year in physical education, health & safety during each year of enrollment, distributed as 150 minutes per week
Mathematics 15 credits (including Algebra I, Geometry, and a third math course that builds on the concepts and skills of algebra and geometry and prepares students for college and 21st century careers)
Science 15 credits (including Lab Biology, Lab Chemistry and/or Physics and/or Environmental Science, plus a third laboratory/inquiry-based science)
Social Studies 15 credits (including Global Studies, US History I & II)
World Languages 5 credits
21st Century Life & Careers 5 credits
Financial, Economic, and Entrepreneurial Literacy 2.5 credits
Visual and Performing Arts 5 credits
Electives 15 credits
Total number of required credits 120 credits

* Note: Some students’ IEPs state that they are exempt from the testing requirement. *
