Alternative Educational Overview

Alternative educational programs as defined by the Camden City Public School District, offer non-traditional, yet effective learning environments that provide flexible educational objectives closely related to the learning style of an related to the individual needs of the students. The programs are designed specially to give those students that hove not flourished in the traditional educational setting an opportunity to learn.

The learning opportunities are designed to meet specific interest, needs and desires of students who may be disruptive, overage, and disaffected in the traditional academic environment. The district's alternative programs are small, carefully staffed, and they address all areas of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. In addition, the alternative education programs provide a caring and supportive long-term environment where rules and regulations are clearly defined and fairly and consistently enforced.

Alternative education programs are not designed to be punitive in nature nor are they short-term suspension programs for students with behavioral problems. They should not be used as a place for students with behavioral problems. They should not be used as a place for students and/or teachers who are preceived to be uncooperative. With this in mind, the district must work cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators and parents to prevent alienation from the alternative education program process.

Students attending alternative education programs remain part of their sending school and may, if their behavior warrants it and is approved by the building administrator, return for activities and services. Students who are classified and/or eligible for special education and related services will not be denied access to alternative education programs; however, educational placements must be determined by their individual needs a specified in their individualized Educational Plan (IEP).

Missions of the Alternative Schools

To increase student academic performance through the integration of creative instructional strategies with technology-based academic enhancement programs while promoting active involvement of families in the educational process. We will strive to accomplish this by developing a meaningful and challenging curriculum for all children, and allowing each student to develop to their fullest potential.

Vision of the Alternative School

It is the vision of Alternative Education to become a service that will enhance the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of all its students, while servicing each student unique needs and abilities within a safe and supportive environment.

Alternative Education will be a learning community that reflects high achievement; a learning community where staff and students come together as a community of life-long learners and a learning community that through collaborative planning includes all stakeholders, produces students who are productive, self-sufficient members of society. This vision will foster a sense of responsibility, self-esteem, discipline and respect in all stakeholders.

Alternative Programs Goals and Objectives

To help students to become productive members of society.
To remove students from disruptive influences, while creating classrooms that are productive and safe.
To increase student understanding of and adherence to the fundamental codes of conduct and compliance with the school's disciplinary policies and procedures in order to achieve a school climate that is conducive to learning and to the safety and well-being of all students.
To provide special support and assistance to help identified students develop more responsible patterns of behavior.
To assist in achieving the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, increase the graduation rate while reducing the drop-out rate.

Credit Recovery Program

Welcome to CCSD Summer Credit Recovery Program 2020!!
All students registered for the program must log into Odysseyware on the internet. The internet address must be entered in as "camdenboe.owschools.com." Students will access their assignments online to receive credit for the summer.
The student's username and password are entered in as their student id #.
