Hello CCSD Families,
On Monday, February 3rd, at 6 PM, we will host a live In the House session on our district Facebook page, featuring our valued partners, ImmSchools. During this session, they will speak directly to our families, offering support and valuable insights. If you or anyone you know might benefit from a Know Your Rights informational, please encourage them to join us on Monday via Facebook at Camden City School District.

The Camden City School District is committed to protecting the rights of all students regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
In 2019-2020, the Camden City School District approved the commitment to creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students regardless of immigration status.

Immigration Rights FAQ
Remember, all people in the U.S., regardless of immigration status, have rights under the U.S. Constitution and other laws. Make sure you know your rights if you are approached by police or ICE.
Our Commitment to Protecting Families
The Camden City School District (CCSD) is committed to ensuring that all students and families feel safe in our schools. Our district has provided training to all staff on handling sensitive situations, including visits from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This guide provides families with an overview of our safety protocols and reassurances about the steps we take to protect student privacy and security.
What Families Should Know
-
Immediate Notification Procedures
-
If ICE agents visit a school, staff have been trained to immediately notify district leadership.
-
The Office of the Superintendent will oversee all communication regarding the situation.
-
-
Restricted Access to School Grounds
-
ICE agents will not be allowed inside a school building or on school property without a valid judicial warrant signed by a judge.
-
Administrative immigration warrants (such as Form I-200) do not authorize ICE entry into schools.
-
If ICE insists on entry under an 'exigent circumstance,' district leadership will be contacted immediately to respond appropriately.
-
-
Protecting Student and Family Privacy
-
No student or family information will be shared with ICE under any circumstances.
-
Requests for student records must go through the Superintendent’s Office and the district’s legal counsel.
-
-
Ensuring a Safe and Supportive Environment
-
Staff have been trained to remain calm and discreet to prevent unnecessary panic.
-
Families and students will be directed away from any areas where an ICE presence may be visible.
-
-
Legal Support and Family Communication
-
If ICE attempts to enforce any action, the district will immediately engage legal counsel.
-
Following any incident, families will be informed of the district’s response and provided with support resources.

A: Only licensed immigration attorneys can provide you with accurate advice about immigration status and how you can pursue your legal rights.
- You may ask to see their badge / identification. If you are unsure if the officer is an immigration agent, you may ask what agency they represent and specifically if they are federal immigration agents.
- You may ask whether you are free to leave.
- You have the right to remain silent and you are not required to answer questions. You may tell the immigration agent that you choose to remain silent.
- If you are not a U.S. citizen and an immigration agent requests your immigration papers, you must show them if you have them with you. If you do not have documentation at the moment of the encounter, you may tell the agent that you want to remain silent or that you want to consult a lawyer before answering any questions.
- Carry valid U.S. government identification with you at all times.
- If you have immigration documentation, carry your valid immigration papers, including your employment authorization card, and copies of your I-94s and Notices to Appear with you at all times.
- Foreign documents should be left at home secured at all times.
- Do not carry false or fraudulent documents, and never provide false or fraudulent documents to a police officer or immigration agent.
- If an immigration agent asks if they can search you, you have the right to say no. Agents generally do not have the right to search you or your belongings without your consent, a valid warrant, or probable cause. However, if an officer or agent searches you anyway, do not resist. You may tell them: “I do not consent to a search. I wish to remain silent. I wish to speak with an attorney as soon as possible.”
- You may ask for an interpreter if they do not speak your language.
All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The ILRC’s Red Cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, such as when ICE agents go to a home.
We are currently working on ordering red cards for everyone.
Here is the link on more information about the red card.
