Special Open Enrollment for New Garden State Health Plan
This is a reminder that the School Employees' Health Benefits Program (SEHBP) is offering a special enrollment period for a new medical plan. The Garden State Health Plan (GSHP) is being offered by the state to active local education employees currently enrolled in the SEHBP. You may enroll in GSHP until May 20, 2022, with an effective date of July 1, 2022.
Eligibility. You are only eligible to enroll in GSHP if you are currently enrolled in one of the SEHBP Plans (NJ Direct or NJ Educators Health Plan). For example, you may change your plan from NJ Educators Health Plan to the GSHP. You may not opt into GSHP if you do not currently have health benefits through the District.
Features of GSHP. The state has published additional information about the GSHP (click here). Here are a few highlights:
- Provider Network. GSHP uses the Aetna Whole Health℠ — New Jersey network of providers.
- NJ Providers only. The GSHP plan offers coverage In New Jersey ONLY unless there is a medical emergency in another state. Providers outside of New Jersey are not part of the plan network. The rates mirror the rates for the New Jersey Educator’s Health Plan (NJEHP)
If you are interested in enrolling in the Garden State Health Plan, log into mynjbenefitshub or through the My Choice App option by May 20, 2022. If you are not interested in GSHP, but want to opt into SEHBP benefits (NJ Direct or NJEHP) or change your SEHBP benefits, you may do so during our normal open enrollment period starting on October 1, 2022.
